Jahazi is a network of founders, operators and investors based in Nairobi, Kenya. This policy explains what information we collect through jahazi.city, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We keep it short because we collect very little.
If you join Jahazi, we collect your email address so we can send you our monthly letter and news about events, the Jahazi city, grants and apprenticeships.
If you apply to the Jahazi city, the AI Research and Builder Residency, or another programme, we collect the answers you give in the application, such as your name, email, where you are based, and what you are working on.
If you email us, we keep the email and your address so we can reply.
Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. We use this only to keep the site running and secure.
We do not use analytics or advertising trackers, and the site does not set cookies of its own. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
We use your information to send the letters you signed up for, to read and respond to your applications, to organise our programmes, and to reply to you. We read every application ourselves, and we use applications only to assess them and to plan the programme you applied to.
We use a small number of service providers to run the site. Each one handles your information only to provide its service to us:
Kit (formerly ConvertKit) stores our mailing list and sends our letters. Probe and Tally host our application forms and store the answers. Vercel hosts the website. Google Fonts serves the typefaces the site uses, which means your browser connects to Google when a page loads.
Some of these providers are based outside Kenya, so your information may be processed in other countries. We share information with others only if the law requires it, or with your permission.
We keep your email on our list until you unsubscribe. We keep applications for as long as we need them to run and follow up on the programme you applied to, and we delete them when they are no longer needed. You can ask us to delete your information sooner at any time.
You can unsubscribe from our letters at any time using the link in every email. You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to hey@jahazi.city. Depending on where you live, including under Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019, you may have further rights, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, and we choose providers who do the same. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission.
Jahazi is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
If we change this policy, we will update it on this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell people on our mailing list.
